ACTH Deficiency

ACTH deficiency is a disease associated with the pituitary gland. This condition happens when the putuitary gland does not produce enough ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone). The pituitary gland, a small gland at the base of the brain, makes and secretes a hormone known as adrenocorticotrophin, or ACTH. Secretion of ACTH signals the adrenal glands to increase cortisol production and othe hormones.

A decrease in ACTH  in the blood leads to hypoadrenalism (Adrenal insufficiency). The symptoms of hypoadrenalism weight loss, lack of appetite (anorexia), weakness, nausea, vomiting, and low blood pressure (hypotension).
