A knee fracture can be a break of any of the bones around the knee

  • Femur is the bone above the knee. A break in the head of the bone at the knee is considered a knee fracture.
  • Patella also called your knee cap.
  • Tibia is the large bone in your leg below the knee. A break in the head of this bone at the knee is considered a knee fracture
     
     

Symptoms of a knee fracture

  • pain
  • tenderness
  • swelling
  • limited range of motion
  • pain made worse by movement
  • grating of bone ends
  • muscle spasm during slight movement
  • misshapen leg
