Calcaneal Fractures

The Calcanel is the heel bone. This is not a common place for a fracture. Calcaneal fractures often results from a fall from a height such as a fall off a ladder, and landing on one or both heels. The force that causes this type of injury may also damage the hip, pelvis and/or spine.

 

Symptoms of calcaneus fracture

  • Heel pain
  • Heel swelling
  • Heel bruise
  • Difficulty walking

Treatment of calcaneus fracture

  • Cold compresses, rest, elevation, and crutches.
  • Narcotic pain medications or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
  • Some fractures may require a cast or splint.
