I have a polyarthritis. I am taking amino acids. Is it true that I should avoid taking tryptophan ? Are there any other amino acids I should avoid?

I am currently on 10mg cortison daily and according to the doctor there is no inflammation in my joints. Still I have a stiff feeling in my fingers most of the day. Due to an irritable bowel syndrom the doctor prescribed tryptophan. Since I am taking that in addition to my aminos I have the strange feeling that this "numbness" in my hands is getting worse.

I have to say that parallel to all of this a gastroenterologist found a helicobacter virus in my blood which she wants to get rid of after all test have been done. She believes that a lot of arthritis symptoms (on the contrary to the rheumathologist) if not all and possibly the asthma as well will disappear after the helicobacter has been eliminated and the bowel has been put in good shape again. Sitting a little between the chairs now. Not to talk about that none of the two has any idea about amino acids and how they might react to the arthritis ...

Tryptophan does not effect any type of arthritis nor does any type of amino acid. This is to say that if they are taken at a responsible level. Extremly high doses of anything including vitamins can cause problems though I have never heard of this causing arthritis symptoms.

I think your gastroenterologist.is nuts. Helicobacter pylori infection does not cause any type of arthritis. There is not one study that backs up this claim. There are some studies that show that treating this virus can help lessen the symptoms of auto-immune types of arthritis.
